Anthony Weiner jokes aside, and there are a plethora of them — a virtual cornucopia, if you will — the disgraced former congressman from New York City pleaded guilty on Friday to texting sexually explicit messages to an underage girl.
As it all came crashing down, the estranged husband of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin addressed the court, where in September, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. According to CBS New York, Weiner said:
“I accept full responsibility for my conduct. I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse. I entered intensive treatment, found the courage to take a moral inventory of my defects, and began a program of recovery and mental health treatment that I continue to follow every day.”
Weiner first denied, then not only apologized for his illicit behavior in 2011 when he announced his resignation from Congress, but was also caught sexting — multiple times afterward — including in 2016, while his toddler son laid in bed with him.
