At least 22 people were killed in Manchester, England, on Monday after a suspected terrorist detonated an “improvised explosive device” during an Ariana Grande concert.
The attack took place at the Manchester Arena shortly after the pop star's concert ended, leaving at least 59 injured in addition to the nearly two dozen dead.
According to earlier reports, the explosion quickly created chaos at the scene. Young fans and families fled in all directions, causing parents to lose track of their children.
One mother, Charlotte Hall, resorted to social media in order to find her child — posting a desperate plea for help on Twitter. They were eventually reunited.
Police confirmed the identities of some of the victims who died in the explosion, including an 18-year-old Ariana Grande fan and an 8-year-old girl.
Grande, 23, reached out to fans on Twitter after the suspected terror attack on Monday night.
The pop star wrote that the horrifying event left her speechless:
Reps for the star confirmed that Grande is unharmed and safe following the attack. Her manager, Scooter Braun, also spoke out to give his condolences and thank first responders:
"Tonight, our hearts are broken. Words cannot express our sorrow for the victims and families harmed in this senseless attack. We mourn the lives of children and loved ones taken by this cowardly act.
We are thankful for the selfless service tonight of Manchester's first responders who rushed towards danger to help save lives. We ask all of you to hold the victims, their families, and all those affected in your hearts and prayers."
According to TMZ, Grande has decided to indefinitely suspend her world tour following the tragic event. The singer was scheduled to perform in London on Thursday.
But for now, the shows are off, as her team “re-evaluates” the upcoming schedule, which had shows slated all across Europe.
Other celebrities, including fellow pop star Miley Cyrus, have reached out to Grande since the tragedy. Cyrus posted a photo on Instagram with the “Side to Side” singer, alongside a heartfelt note of solidarity.
[L]ove love love you… so sorry you had to be apart of such a tragic event! my most sincere condolences to anyone and everyone affected by this horrific attack!
A 23-year-old man, whom police have not identified, was taken into custody following the attack.
