Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) is the youngest Speaker of the House in over 140 years, but apparently, he's not quite young enough to be hip to certain internet fads.

During an interview with Mike Allen of Axios on Wednesday, Ryan revealed that he wasn't familiar with GIFs until recently. For those who, like Ryan, may have been living under a proverbial rock for years now, this is a GIF:

Short for Graphic Interchange Format, a GIF is a type of picture or video file often presented in the form of a continuously looping moving image. The files have become ubiquitous on just about every social media platform, but alas, one of the most powerful men in the country was left in the dark — until now:

“Yeah, I learned this! Yeah, yeah, you're talking about GIFs or GIPHYs — what are these things called? GIFs? Yeah, these things are awesome, I learned about this like three weeks ago, I didn't know — somebody sent me one.”

But the wonder of Paul Ryan's newfound GIF obsession doesn't stop there, you'll never believe which GIFs are the speaker's favorites:

“My deal is, I got one with Stifler here doing 'Yes!' You know, it's from Old School — what I do is I send — he's got a big mullet here — I send GIFs to people who really don't expect it from me. You know, I've got one with Britney Spear's doing [a thumb's up gesture], Captain Obvious, these things are pretty damn funny, I think. I send this to people who really wouldn't expect it from me and it's just kind of fun to watch their reaction.”

Yes, apparently the Speaker of the House has been texting members GIFs of Seann William Scott's character from “Old School” and “Oops! ... I Did It Again” singer Britney Spears — just take a moment to let that sink in.

Paul Ryan, the man third in line for the presidency, very well may be sending this GIF to his colleagues:

Never change, Mr. Speaker. Never change.
