Former FBI Director James Comey declined to answer Thursday when he was asked under oath if he believes President Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign.
“Do you believe Donald Trump colluded with Russia?” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) asked.
Comey raised some eyebrows with his response: "That’s a question I don't think I should answer in an open setting. As I said, when I left, we didn’t have an investigation focused on Donald Trump. But that’s a question that will be answered by the investigation I think.”

While many drew some significant conclusions from Comey’s decision to decline to answer the question, the former FBI director later explained that he wasn’t insinuating anything “nefarious” by doing so. He also explained he didn’t want to put himself into as situation where he was talking in a public hearing about an ongoing investigation.
Still, that didn't stop the internet from running wild with speculation.
