Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey slammed the head of the Obama administration's Justice Department on Friday for effectively colluding with the Clinton campaign and being “in the tank for” former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
On Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey testified before Congress that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch directed him to use softer language to describe his agency's probe into former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's emails. Lynch's request, Mukasey argued on Newsmax TV, was “egregious” and made the Justice Department “an arm of the Clinton campaign.”
“That is, I think, a betrayal really of the Department and of its independence — to illustrate that clearly that the Attorney General was essentially in the tank for Hillary Clinton,” Mukasey, who served in the George W. Bush administration, told Newsmax host Steve Malzberg.
Comey alleged on Thursday that Lynch specifically told him not to refer to the email probe as an “investigation,” but rather to describe it as a “matter.”
“What makes it egregious is the fact — and I think it's obvious that it is a fact — that the Attorney General of the United States was adjusting the way the Department talked about its business so as to coincide with the way the Clinton campaign talked about that business,” Mukasey said.
