President Donald Trump donated his first-quarter salary to the preservation of a Civil War battlefield following his initial promise not to keep the $400,000 he receives in annual pay as commander in chief.

On Wednesday, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke announced that Trump would give $78,333 to preserve the battlefield at Antietam in Maryland.

“The president's donation will allow generations of Americans to learn about our history and heritage on this sacred site,” Zinke said, according to The Washington Examiner. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer presented a check in April for Zinke to put toward the National Park Service, The New York Times reported.
