On Tuesday, police resorted to using tear gas on protesters outside of President Donald Trump's rally in Phoenix, Arizona.

Thousands of people showed up to protest Trump's rally, in which he defended his comments in the wake of racially-charged protests in Charlottesville, Virginia. While the protest groups did interact, according to CNN, police maintained a barrier between them.

Video (see above) emerged from the scene where protesters could be seen throwing bottles at the police. One CNN reporter noted that the tear gas didn't initially seem to affect the protesters.

The protesters, however, did seem to eventually move away from the gas.

The protesters carried megaphones and signs, one of which read, “Old white men against bigotry.” Protesters also yelled “Shame,” as well as “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”
