President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning shared multiple disturbing and violent anti-Muslim videos from one of the leaders of a far-right British group on his Twitter account.
The three videos, which the president retweeted to his over 40 million followers, allegedly show Muslims carrying out acts of violence, including one man assaulting someone on crutches and another person being pushed off a roof.
Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of the ultranationalist group Britain First, which has been accused of having an anti-Muslim bias, initially tweeted the graphic videos.
The first video the president retweeted shows a man assaulting another man on crutches with the caption: “VIDEO: Muslim migrant beats up Dutch boy on crutches!”
Trump then retweeted another video with a man smashing a statue of the Virgin Mary along with the caption: “VIDEO: Muslim Destroys a Statue of Virgin Mary!”
Finally, the president shared a graphic video purportedly showing a man being pushed off a roof by a group of people. The caption for this video read: “VIDEO: Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof and beats him to death!”
The videos may add fuel to the anti-Islam sentiments present among some of the president’s political base. Trump previously called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” during his campaign.
However, once in office, the president moved to distance himself from deeming his ban on immigration into the United States from certain Muslim majority countries a “Muslim ban.”
Following Trump's retweets, Fransen thanked the president for promoting her message: “THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, DONALD TRUMP, HAS RETWEETED THREE OF DEPUTY LEADER JAYDA FRANSEN'S TWITTER VIDEOS! DONALD TRUMP HIMSELF HAS RETWEETED THESE VIDEOS AND HAS AROUND 44 MILLION FOLLOWERS! GOD BLESS YOU TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA! OCS.”
