Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday donated to embattled Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore's Democratic opponent's campaign.
Flake took to Twitter, posting an image of a check for $100 written out to “Doug Jones for U.S. Senate” with a memo that reads: “Country over Party.”
The Arizona senator was outspoken early following multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Moore, calling for the candidate to step down.

On Monday, Flake retweeted former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's tweet condemning the GOP for sticking up for Moore: “Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity,” Romney wrote.
“@MittRomney is right. A Roy Moore victory is no victory for the GOP and the nation,” Flake said.
Flake said back in mid-November that he would back a Democrat before supporting Moore. “If this choice is between Roy Moore and a Democrat, a Democrat,” Flake said. “For sure.”
The White House on Tuesday defended President Donald Trump's controversial endorsement of Moore, saying that while the president is concerned over the mounting allegations, ultimately, it's up to Alabamians to decide the outcome of the election.
