It was Brown's first Golden Globe win, and it was also a historic moment for the industry as a whole, as it marked the first time a black actor won in the category.

While it was a night of many firsts, the actor knows how award shows work and decided to start his speech off with the most important people in his life, in case he got cut off.
“Let me thank my wife,” he began. “Ryan Michelle Bathe, I love you so much. Thank you for supporting me through this whole thing.”
The actor who plays America's favorite dad, Randall Pearson, on television, sent a message to his real-life children to let them know exactly where they could find him in the morning.
“Daddy will see you. I will take you to school in the morning,” he said and added, “I promise.”
Brown then went on to thank the cast and all the people who helped him get to that moment, including the show's creator, who “wrote a role for a black man that can only be played by a black man.”
