Hollywood actor Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in director Mel Gibson's 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ,” is focused on a greater goal in his work.

During a recent interview with The Christian Post, Caviezel, who plays Luke in the recently released movie “Paul, Apostle of Christ,” said he takes on acting roles that will “bring the most souls” to Christ.

Caviezel has dedicated his career to his faith.

It was while he was working on “The Passion” — when he was hanging on the cross — that Caviezel decided to dedicate his career entirely to advancing the Christian message. During that project, the actor said, God “came close to me.”

“[He said], 'They don't love me. There are very few,'” Caviezel recalled. “I was like, 'Well, I'm going to love you, and I'm going to tell you that I love you — tell it publicly, I don't care.' I'm less afraid of ISIS than I am the media.”

The Hollywood star said God is often “alone” because “his creatures do not love him.”

“He could force himself on us, but would that be love? I don't think so,” Caviezel explained. “I'm so blessed because I get to convey those stories, but do it in a way ... that I know can bring the most souls back to him, even those that don't believe.”

He prayed his latest project would turn people to God.

In a column for Fox News, Caviezel said starring as the Apostle Luke in his latest role “has helped me focus once again on the miracle of the resurrection and the incredible impact Christianity has on the world.”

And before he started working on the film, Caviezel told the Post, he spent time in prayer:

“Lord, I don't want the world to see me. I want them to see you. You gotta get closer to me.”

“It's really like a conversation just like that, and I pray from the heart,” Caviezel explained. “Christ is the most authentic thing that ever was and the people that really affected my life were those that I played on screen — and Jesus.”

Caviezel will reprise his role as the Son of God in the forthcoming sequel to “The Passion.” He said in January the movie will be the “biggest film in history.”
