President Donald Trump on Friday morning weighed in on excerpts released from former FBI Director James Comey's book chronicling his interactions with Trump and the Russia investigation, calling Comey an “untruthful slime ball” and bashing his credibility ahead of the book's publication.

Trump called out Comey's use of memos detailing interactions he had with the president while in his position at the FBI — which were leaked to media outlets last year. Trump accused Comey of orchestrating the leak and called for his prosecution over his handling of government information.

“He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a terrible Director of the FBI,” Trump said in the tweets.

The president also attacked Comey over his handling of the investigation into the Hillary Clinton email scandal. Comey became infamous after he decided to announce that the FBI would reopen the Clinton investigation days before the 2016 presidential election.

Trump went on to bash Comey's work at the FBI, calling it a “great honor” to have fired him last year, despite critics at the time who argued that Comey's firing could mean interference in the Russia investigation and obstruction of justice.

The attack from the president responds to Comey's earlier comments that working in the Trump administration is like working for a “mob boss,” a remark the White House presumably didn't take too kindly.

Trump's comments come ahead of an ABC interview with Comey on Sunday as the ex-FBI director promotes a new book called “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership” which will be released next week.

The president also included in his series of morning tweets praise for the progress on the border wall, saying that residents of San Diego “will soon be protected!”
