Kardashian West has spoken to Kushner over the phone about a possible presidential pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a 62-year old woman serving a lifetime prison sentence for a nonviolent drug offense, according to a source familiar with the calls. The pair has been in contact over the past several months and phone calls have upped in frequency in the last week.
Another individual with knowledge of the talks added that Kardashian West's request for a presidential pardon is being reviewed by the White House attorneys. Kardashian West first tweeted about Johnson in October of last year, writing “this is so unfair” with a link to a story describing the great-grandmother's situation.
Ever since Kardashian West has been a proponent for Johnson and assembled a team of lawyers to advocate on her behalf in November.
Concurrently, Kardashian West's husband, musician Kanye West, has voiced overwhelming support for President Donald Trump on Twitter. In the face of widespread criticism, the Grammy award-winning rapper doubled down on his respect for Trump's “dragon energy” and notable irreverent demeanor.
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought,” West wrote.
West also criticized former president and fellow Chicago native, Barack Obama, for regional crime rates.
“Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed,” West added later.
Trump acknowledged West's fervent support on Twitter in the past week, writing, “very cool” after the rapper posted a signed Make America Great Again hat on the social media platform.
Sources made no mention if West's support of the president impacted the talks between his wife and Kushner.
