Former New York City Mayor and new Trump legal team member Rudy Giuliani continued his explosive media blitz on Thursday, urging Attorney General Jeff Sessions to “step in” on the Michael Cohen investigation while also saying he doesn't think the president's lawyer was actually wiretapped.

“Us lawyers have talked about it, we don't believe it's true,” Giuliani told The Daily Beast after news broke that federal investigators had reportedly wiretapped Cohen.

Trump's new legal team member added that the team believes the report will turn out to be untrue because “it would be totally illegal.”

“You can't wiretap a lawyer, you certainly can't wiretap his client who's not involved in the investigation,” Giuliani said.

“So they're going to wiretap the lawyer, his client, and his client the president of the United States? I don't think so, not if they want to stay out of jail,” he added.

Giuliani also told The Hill in an exclusive interview on Thursday that he wants Sessions to “step in” and put the people behind the Cohen probe “under investigation.”

“I am waiting for the attorney general to step in, in his role as defender of justice, and put these people under investigation,” the former mayor said.

When asked how he thinks Trump will respond when they speak about the reported wiretapping, Giuliani said: “He is going to say to me, 'Isn't there an attorney-client privilege?' And I am going to tell him, 'No, the Department of Justice seems to want to trample all over the Constitution of the United States.'”

Giuliani sent Washington into a frenzy after he confirmed on Fox News on Wednesday night that Trump repaid Cohen for a payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels.

“That money was not campaign money, sorry,” Giuliani told Sean Hannity. ”I'm giving you a fact now that you don't know. It's not campaign money. No campaign finance violations."

Hannity then asked: “So they funneled it through a law firm?”

“Funneled it through the law firm, and the president repaid him,” the former mayor replied.
