First lady Melania Trump had kidney surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday, according to a statement from the White House.

“The procedure was successful and there were no complications. Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week,” the statement said.

“The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”

According to the statement, the problems that led Trump to have the procedure were benign.

President Donald Trump remained at the White House while the First Lady underwent treatment.

A week ago, Trump announced her “Be Best” campaign, the first formal agenda she has taken on since moving into the White House.

“Every child should know it is safe to make mistakes and that there are supportive adults and friends nearby to catch them if they fell,” she said from the White House Rose Garden last Monday.

The campaign will focus largely on children’s well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.

“By acknowledging there are many important issues, and knowing these problems cannot be solved overnight, I believe we can change the way we think and talk about issues facing children today,” she said.
