United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley laid into the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday for criticizing Israel's actions when violence broke out during the new U.S. Embassy opening in Jerusalem.

Following Haley's remarks, comedian Chelsea Handler attacked her on Twitter — and it backfired.

“Nikki Haley is on tv talking about Hamas being responsible for the Palestinians protesting yesterday,” the comedian wrote.

“These people had no weapons," she tweeted. "They had tires to burn. There was a dead baby. While [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu celebrates.”

Twitter users were quick to pounce on Handler's claim that the Palestinian protesters were unarmed, and they were absolutely savage in their responses.

Handler then took her critique of Haley to a shocking new level by comparing her to former German Chancellor Adolf Hitler:

That remark definitely didn't go over so well, either:

Handler then put the final nail in her own coffin with a third tweet:

Immediately, people jumped on her for referring to the West Bank as the “left bank.”

In her speech before the U.N. Security Council, Haley made it clear the White House blames Hamas for the violent outbreak at the Gaza Strip and slammed those arguing that the embassy relocation caused the backlash:

“Those who suggest that the Gaza violence has anything to do with the location of the American embassy are sorely mistaken. Rather, the violence comes from those who reject the existence of the state of Israel in any location. Such a motivation, the destruction of a United Nations member state, is so illegitimate as to not be worth our time in the Security Council, other than the time it takes to denounce it.”
