According to the May jobs report, unemployment among individuals who are black continued plummeting to a new record low not seen since the government started tracking it in 1972.
The unemployment rate for black Americans dropped from 6.6 percent in April 2018 to 5.9 percent last month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That came after the rate initially hit a record low — 6.8 percent — in December of last year, marking the first time it dropped below 7 percent.
African American unemployment is the lowest ever recorded in our country. The Hispanic unemployment rate dropped a full point in the last year and is close to the lowest in recorded history. Dems did nothing for you but get your vote! #NeverForget @foxandfriends

The 5.9 percent figure came alongside other positive news about unemployment in the country:

As Independent Journal Review previously reported, the unemployment rate dropped to an 18-year low of 3.8 percent in May.
Under Trump, the media has seen a renewed discussion about the support from black Americans for Republican politicians. Perhaps most notably, YouTube stars Diamond and Silk came out during the 2016 campaign to throw their support behind Trump.
Turning Point USA communications director Candace Owens specifically challenged the idea that individuals who are black weren't doing better under Trump's presidency.
“The numbers are in, and blacks are doing better under his administration,” she said while appearing on Fox News in April. Owens also touted rapper Kanye West, who famously and controversially gave his public backing to Trump, as a symbol of change within the black community.
“We are on the brink of a cultural shift, and I can tell you right now it is going to be amazing to watch,” Owens said.
Trump similarly said West “performed a great service to the Black Community”:
Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community - Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first time in Decades - Legacy Stuff! Thank you also to Chance and Dr. Darrell Scott, they really get it (lowest Black & Hispanic unemployment in history).
