Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) joined American political leaders in honoring the legacy of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on social media, and some of her supporters were not happy about it.

Sen. McCain, with his family at his side, passed away Saturday after a battle with brain cancer

Ocasio-Cortez stated that she met McCain while interning on Capitol Hill, adding that the senator “represents an unparalleled example of human decency and American service”:

While the kind sentiments were appreciated by many, some of Ocasio-Cortez's supporters were outraged that she had kind words to say about the Republican senator, calling him a “racist” and a “warmonger”:

Many, however, were disgusted by hateful replies to Ocasio-Cortez's simple memorial and the lack of sympathy or respect some democratic socialists appear to have for the sacrifice McCain and fellow soldiers made for American freedom.
