2020 Democrats Continue to Hit Biden for Racially Charged Language: ‘That Is a Very Loaded Term’

Several 2020 Democrats were asked about the comments former Vice President Joe Biden made while discussing his “civility” with segregationists — and they didn’t pull any punches.

Biden has been tangled up in controversy after bragged about his past work with segregationists and made a joke about the use of the word “boy” to demean black men during the civil rights era.

While hitting the Sunday morning shows, Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) both doubled down on their demands for an apology from Biden. Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and former Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro also bashed their 2020 competitor for his insensitive comments.

As IJR previously reported, Booker has been one of the most vocal critics of Biden’s comments. He reiterated his frustration during an interview on “ABC This Week,” and expressed disbelief that Biden claimed his comments were taken out of context.

Watch Booker’s comments:

“I listened to the full totality of what he was talking about, and frankly, I heard from many, many African-Americans who found the comments hurtful. Look, we make mistakes. We sometimes tread upon issues that maybe we aren’t knowledgeable of. I don’t think the vice president should need this lesson but this was a time for him to be healing and to be helpful, especially at a time that he is looking to bring this party together and lead us in what is the most important election of our lifetime. I was disappointed.”

Booker wasn’t alone. Sanders doubled down on his demand for an apology from Biden, as well.

Watch Sanders’ comments:

“I think Joe owes the country an apology on that. And that it is one thing to work with people in the Senate — as you have to do, as every Senator does, as I do — with people you have fundamental disagreements with. That’s one thing. You do that. That’s your job. But it’s another thing to kind of extol those relationships. You cannot be extolling people who really were part of a disgusting system that oppressed and terrorized millions of African-Americans in this country.”

With that said, Sanders noted that he doesn’t believe Biden meant the comments to be racially charged, explaining, “If your question is do I think Joe Biden is a racist, absolutely not. No, I don’t. Not for a second. Joe is a friend of mine. I like Joe.”

Castro made a similar argument to Sanders in that he wished Biden had been more cautious in promoting his work with known segregationists.

Watch Castro’s remarks:

“I would not have spoken in that way about the relationship without putting it in more context and so I definitely understand how people are offended by that, given where we are in 2019 and the pain that people like Senator [James O.] Eastland (D-Miss.) created through their actions and through their comfort in the United States Senate and their privilege.”

Harris also issued a harsh condemnation of Biden during her interview on “Face the Nation.”

Watch Harris’s interview:

“I applaud any effort to work across party lines around common goals and common interests. […] Praising and coddling individuals who made it their life work and built their reputation off of segregation of the racists in the United States. That’s a problem. I would not be a member of the United States Senate if those men that he praised had their way. I wouldn’t.”

Harris noted that she found his use of the word “boy” to be especially problematic, saying, “We cannot be ignorant to the history of race in this country. Certainly, anyone who is a leader should not be. That is a very loaded term, loaded with a history that includes extreme racism, violence, discrimination, prejudice, you name it.”

For now, it doesn’t look as though Biden feels like he was in the wrong over the situation. He has not issued an apology, as Booker and Sanders requested.

What do you think?

What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive. Democrats using blacks again and again. Democrats have been guilty of keeping blacks poor and under their thumb to get their vote. Keep them hooked on handouts and tell them they must vote for Democrats or they will lose their free- bees. Slavery without chains. Booker and Harris are complicit. Biden is part of the old Democrat guard, like Byrd who was a member of the KKK, the rich plantation owners that convinced the Southern states to secede, robbed the freed slaves of their 40 acres and a mule,… Read more »

Keep flappin’ those gums Floppy Joe. Your mouth is like an excavator while you dig yourself an enormous hole you may not be able to climb out of. When you lose yet again, won’t this make three failed runs for the Presidency?

Biden still hasn’t answered any questions about his personal involvement with his son’s deals with China and/or their use of Air Force 2. An investigation is warranted; more so than over Trump’s supposed colluding with Russia which did not include Hillary’s colluding with Russia and paying $116,000 for dirt on Trump. Hopefully AG Barr has enough time in his day to investigate, indict and imprison her and #44. [Other media reports are saying Barry should be charged with treason for his involvement in the HRC/DNC collusion scandal. LET IT HAPPEN!!]
