Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is not leaving the 2020 race after a disappointing showing the day before, as he says, he looks forward to debating former Vice President Joe Biden and working to defeat President Donald Trump.

Sanders hit Trump early in his remarks during a press conference on Wednesday in his hometown of Burlington, Vt., beginning by saying, “Donald Trump is the most dangerous president in the modern history of our country and he must be defeated.”

He continued, “Tragically, we have a president today who is a pathological liar and who is running a corrupt administration. He clearly does not understand the Constitution of the United States and thinks that he is a president who is above the law.”

Moments later, Sanders added “In my view, [Trump] is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe and a religious bigot and he must be defeated, and I will do everything in my power to make that happen.”

A few short weeks ago, Sanders was the frontrunner in the race and seemed poised to earn the nomination. However, he fell short of necessary victories on Super Tuesday and a week later, lost Michigan to Biden, dealing a huge blow to his chances.

Sanders said that he will stay in the race and suggested that he is hoping to push Biden’s platform in a more progressive direction.

He told the gathered reporters, “On Sunday, I very much look forward to the debate in Arizona with my friend, Joe Biden. And let me be very frank as to the questions that I will be asking Joe,” then rattled off a list of issues central to his platform, including climate change.

Next Tuesday, Sanders will face Biden in a number of states that are battlegrounds in the general election, including Florida and Ohio.
