Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 Republican in the House, is sharing whether she would support former President Donald Trump if was the party’s nominee for president in 2024.
During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Cheney was asked, “If Donald Trump were the 2024 nominee, would you support him?”
“I would not,” she responded.

Cheney was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for what lawmakers allege was his role in inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
In February, she told Fox News’ Chris Wallace, “I think when you take a look at both [Trump’s] actions leading up to Jan. 6. The fact that he was impeached in a bipartisan fashion. The fact that he lost the presidency. The fact that we lost the Senate. We have to be in a position where we can say, ‘We stand for principles, we stand for ideals.”
“Somebody who has provoked an attack on the United States Capitol to prevent the counting of the electoral votes — which resulted in five people dying. Who refused to stand up immediately when he was asked and stop the violence. That is a person who does not have a role as a leader of our party going forward,” she added.
Trump took aim at Cheney and other Congressional Republicans who voted in favor of impeachment and conviction during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC).
He said, “The Democrats don’t have grandstanders like [Senators] Mitt Romney, little Ben Sasse, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey. And in the House, Tom Rice [of] South Carolina, Adam Kinzinger, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez — that’s another beauty, Fred Upton, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Peter Meijer, John Katko, David Valadao and of course the warmonger, a person that loves seeing our troops fighting, Liz Cheney, how about that?”
“The good news is in her state, she’s been censured and in her state her poll numbers have dropped faster than any human being I’ve ever seen. So hopefully they’ll get rid of her with the next election. Get rid of them all!”
Senate Minority Leader Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has been a target of attacks from Trump since leaving office, was asked in February if he would support the former president if he won the party’s nomination.
He responded, “The nominee of the party? Absolutely.”
Trump has not yet shared whether he plans to run for president in 2024.
