The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence discussed Mueller’s testimony in a Thursday interview with “The View.” Schiff suggested further investigations into Trump could be necessary, claiming Mueller declined to “follow the money” and questioned whether the Russians laundered money through the president’s businesses.
“Well, what we’re doing in the Intelligence Committee is we are following the money. We’re investigating that issue of money laundering, potentially, by the Russians through Trump’s businesses. We’re doing that along with the Financial Services Committee,” he said.
Schiff added his committee was also looking into security clearances within the administration, as well as whether Gulf nations were laundering money through the president’s businesses in efforts to influence U.S. policymaking.

“And, as you know, we’re having a vigorous debate about whether we need to go beyond investigation to impeachment,” he added. “And if so, when that should be done.”
House Democrats remain divided on the prospect of impeachment. Schiff is one of several top Democrats attempting to hold off on the proceedings being called for by a smaller — but vocal — contingent of the Democratic caucus.
In a Thursday interview with CNN, Schiff expressed a belief that the only “realistic” way to get Trump out of the Oval Office is through the 2020 presidential election.
“Should we put the country through an impeachment? I haven’t been convinced yet that we should,” he said, taking a stand in line with House Democratic leadership. “Going through that kind of momentous and disruptive experience for the country, I think, is not something we go into lightly.”
