After George H.W. Bush Is Hospitalized, His Inauguration Letter to Trump Goes Public

Earlier this month, President George H.W. Bush sent his regrets on not being able to attend the upcoming presidential Inauguration, according to a note that has circulated across several media outlets.

“My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara,” Bush wrote. “So I guess we’re stuck in Texas.”

The note, dated January 10th to Donald Trump, was publicized and confirmed soon after the elder Bush was hospitalized for shortness of breath Wednesday morning.

Here is the letter in full:

During the presidential election, even after their son Jeb Bush had left the race, former First Lady Barbara Bush expressed her opposition for Trump, and President H.W. Bush reportedly intended to vote for Hillary Clinton.

While #41 may not be there, President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush are scheduled to attend the Inauguration.
