After Nordstrom Drops Ivanka Trump’s Brand, Macy’s Is Now Feeling the Pressure…

Not only is Ivanka Trump now a new member of the First Family, she is also  raising three children and running multiple businesses.

Although she doesn’t serve as an official adviser to the president, Ivanka’s role as a first daughter has affected her personal life on an unprecedented level.

In an October interview with Time, she touched on how much her brand has been affected by her father’s newfound political career:

“My brand was launched far before the Presidential cycle commenced and will continue long afterwards. I’ve always tried to maintain complete separation between that and the campaign. With that said, you know, one of the challenging things is just operating, living one’s life, with the intensity and the scrutiny of this process is a very hard thing actually to do.”

Last Thursday, things for her business started to spiral downward when the chain department store Nordstrom announced its removal of Ivanka Trump’s brand for their upcoming season.

Nordstrom said in a statement:

“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

It came as a shock after the department store responded to criticism on November 2, saying  carrying Ivanka Trump’s product was not a political message:

The response was primarily geared towards those participating in the movement called “#GrabYourWallet,” an effort to stop spending money at any store or service that, directly or indirectly, contributes to the Trump family.

On Friday, just a day after Nordstrom pulled Ivanka’s brand, Neiman Marcus also removed her jewelry from its website..

The senior director of marketing for Ivanka Trump, Rosemary K. Young, said on Friday:

“The Ivanka Trump brand continues to expand across categories and distribution with increased customer support, leading us to experience significant year-over-year revenue growth in 2016. We believe that the strength of a brand is measured not only by the profits it generates, but the integrity it maintains.”

But it’s clear that department stores are feeling the pressure.

In 2015, Macy’s halted sales of Trump’s dress shirts after he said Mexican immigrants are “rapists” and “killers.” But Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren told CNB that it was solely due to the store’s decision of “not carrying any product from any candidate, ever.”

He also specified:

“If Hillary Clinton had a handbag collection we won’t carry that, either.”

Now, the store is rumored to be on the verge of parting ways with Ivanka’s products, as well.

Yahoo Reports:

“Hopefully they stop,” an internal Macy’s source told Business Insider, referencing the company’s declining sales. “They can’t lose any more money than they already are.”

Most of Ivanka’s products are being sold on clearance:

Macy’s is currently one of the top businesses on #GrabYourWallet’s list of companies.
