During a recent interview, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez compared herself to previous American leaders while calling for high tax rates.
“It’s going to require a lot of rapid change that we don’t even conceive as possible,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “What is the problem with trying to push our technological capacity to the furthest extent possible?”
After she was asked if her ideas were too radical, she compared herself to leaders such as Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
“If that’s what radical means, call me a radical,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She discussed how she would pay for her policies, saying that extremely high tax rates for the wealthy.
“There’s an element where yeah people are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes. You look at our tax rates back in the 60s, and when you have a progressive tax rate system, your tax rate … from zero to $75,000 may be 10 percent or 15 percent. But once you get to the tippie tops, on your $10 millionth, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60% or 70%. That doesn’t mean all $10 million are taxed at an extremely high rate. But it means that as you climb up this ladder, you should be contributing more.”
However, she did not give a specific plan for implementing these policies or how legislation will be passed.
