The hosts of “The View” broke out the dictionary while pressing Alina Habba, former legal counsel to President Donald Trump, on the definition of “86.”
Wednesday’s show included a conversation about former FBI director James Comey being charged, among other things, with threatening the life of the president in an Instagram post last year.
The image was of sea shells, arranged on a beach to spell “86-47.”
Habba insisted the term “86” means to kill.
Sunny Hostin disagreed, stating, “the dictionary disagrees with you.”
According to Merriam-Webster, “86” is a slang term that means “to throw out,” “to get rid of,” or “to refuse service to.”
Cohost Joy Behar added “86” is used in the business and means to get rid of or toss a menu item out.
“Do they mean to kill the meat?” she asked Habba.
Behar also pointed out the Republican congressman Matt Gaetz has used the term “86” before and hasn’t faced repercussions for it.
Habba argued that things need to be taken in context, before attempting to shift the conversation onto late night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Hostin added Trump has previously posted on social media that “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”
Hostin wondered if Trump should be similarly charged as Comey.
“I haven’t seen that post,” Habba responded.
Watch:
The number “47” refers to Trump being the 47th President of the United States.
Habba also said the term “86” was used with her name attached.
“Let me just tell you what happened after James Comey’s post. A gentleman posted that about me. He posted on Twitter, “86 Habba,” and he was also charged. He was charged in Florida and he was held accountable because you cannot do it,” she said. “Now, this is an FBI director. We have responsibilities. You guys have responsibilities not to call the president certain things or say things that could incite violence.
“I most certainly think, after Saturday, I have a completely new perspective on how important our voices are and how we use them,” she added.
