Justin Amash Finds Primary Challenger in Pro-Trump Republican State Rep After His Impeachment Remarks

Following his weekend tweet claiming that President Donald Trump had committed impeachable offenses, a Michigan state Republican announced that he would challenge Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) in the 2020 primary race, according to the Detroit Free Press.

On Saturday, Amash published a flurry of tweets about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian election interference, claiming that Trump had engaged in “impeachable conduct” and that Attorney General William Barr “deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.”

The Monday after Amash’s comments hit the Twittersphere, self-described “pro-Trump” Republican state Rep. Jim Lower (R-Mich.) announced that he would be challenging the congressman in the primary race for his seat.

“Congressman Justin Amash’s tweets yesterday calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents.”

“He must be replaced and I am going to do it,” declared Lower.

The Michigan state Republican said that he had prior plans to announce his challenge to Amash around July 4 but moved up his announcement after the congressman’s tweets.

Amash, although a tight conservative, has taken shots at Trump before and has not been afraid to break from his party on some issues, such as when he fought against the Republicans’ plan to replace the Affordable Care Act.

As IJR News previously reported, the president fired back at Amash on Twitter for his comments, lambasting the Michigan Republican as “a total lightweight” whose opposition to him “and some of our great Republican ideas and policies” was based on “getting his name out there through controversy.”

The president also slammed him as “a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents’ hands.”

IJR Red noted that Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) — another Republican lawmaker not afraid to be at odds with Trump — commended Amash for his “courageous statement” on Sunday but said that he did not view the president’s actions as meriting impeachment.

I hope Lower goes higher and mashes Amash in any election forthcoming.

“Amash, although a tight conservative…” Calling yourself a libertarian/conservative doesn’t necessarily make it so.

1. AG Barr told the truth.
2. Trump committed no crime.
3. Democrats have eroded our system.
4. No Democrat has read the unredacted version for viewing.
5. You’re an IDIOT!

Whomever is running against this loser Amash deserves a big contribution. Smart voters in Michigan, vote this loser and that Rep Rashida Tlaib out of office. Neither have done a thing for Michigan. President Trump needs to have a majority of good Republicans in Congress in 2020 to get his legislation passed.

The challenger needs to start now to build a base to swing the vote to himself.

Who is this guy? He just sealed the end of his career in politics. Unless, of course, he becomes a liberal. Sounds like he’s on the way.
