AOC Gets Everything Wrong Trying to Tie Ethics Complaint to Investigation That Uncovered Her Boyfriend Drama

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) tried — and failed — to call out the ethics of those who have uncovered several scandals within her own campaign and congressional office.

As IJR previously reported, Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, have two outstanding complaints with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) and one complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE).

The Reagan Coolidge Foundation, a conservative First Amendment group, has two complaints against Ocasio-Cortez. The first is an FEC complaint about payments made to the congresswoman’s boyfriend Riley Roberts. The second is an OCE complaint filed for misuse of House resources after Ocasio-Cortez issued Roberts an official email, despite her claims that he isn’t working for her office.

The National Legal and Policy Center filed an FEC complaint against Chakrabarti for allegedly funneling nearly $1 million between his PAC accounts and his LLC in order to obscure where the funds were being spent and dodge FEC reporting requirements.

Most of these scandals spiraled out of an original report by Republican strategist Luke Thompson. Thompson first discovered that Roberts was given an official email, which prompted him to dig into Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign finances. There, he realized that Roberts was also being paid by Chakrabarti during the campaign.

For obvious reasons, Ocasio-Cortez and company are not big fans of Thompson. When it became clear that a PAC that was tied to a company Thompson used to work for, Right to Rise, was hit with an FEC complaint, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to run a victory lap.

The only problem for Ocasio-Cortez is that no part of her tweet is accurate.

Right to Rise, a pro-Jeb Bush Super PAC, had nothing to do with the complaints filed by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation or the National Legal and Policy Center. After the congresswoman was blasted with corrections, she issued an update.

But she didn’t even get this right. As noted by the Daily Caller‘s Peter Hasson, Thompson didn’t work for either group that filed a complaint and there’s no sign that he worked with the PAC for Right to Rise, as he was not listed in the complaint from the FEC.

While Ocasio-Cortez and her team would probably like to see Thompson hit with a complaint, it looks like she is the only one facing multiple complaints for the shady dealings of her and her team.
