A tense situation unfolded in Southern California when deputies moved in on a heavily armed man spotted near a high-profile coastal area, leading to his arrest before anyone was hurt.
According to the New York Post, Sean Steiner is now facing multiple felony firearm charges after authorities say he was carrying a cache of weapons while wandering near Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.
The incident began when a concerned caller reported seeing a man in body armor near hiking trails along Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Steiner had been observed earlier in the area wearing protective gear designed to stop rifle rounds.
He was also seen carrying a rifle, along with gloves, a duffel bag, and a step stool.
Authorities said the situation escalated when deputies later encountered Steiner running through traffic before taking him into custody.
Investigators reported that he was armed at the time of his arrest, allegedly carrying a loaded semi-automatic short-barreled rifle with a round already chambered, along with a loaded revolver.
A subsequent search uncovered additional weapons and equipment.
Officials said they recovered two loaded handguns, high-capacity magazines, extra ammunition, a ballistic vest, and an AR-style pistol with an orange tip designed to resemble a toy.
One of the firearms was described as having “Joker” imagery and phrases, adding to concerns about the nature of the incident.
Authorities credited the initial caller for helping prevent a potentially dangerous outcome.
They pointed to the importance of public awareness efforts, noting that deputies were able to respond quickly in a populated area.
The arrest comes amid other recent incidents tied to the same location.
In March, opposing demonstrators gathered for a “No Kings” protest near the golf course.
In December 2024, an assault was also reported at the site, where a man was knocked unconscious.
Officials have not indicated any connection between those events and Steiner’s arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors review the case.
