Actor Kelsey Grammar may soon be called candidate Kelsey Grammar.
The former “Frasier” and “Cheers” actor told Us Weekly the draw is, in part, due to a duty he feels he owes the country.
“It would possibly tick that box for me, in terms of the service I feel I should have given to my fellow man — to my fellow countrymen — that I missed in the military,” Grammer said. “Maybe that would be the way to do it. I have wrestled with it.”
Grammer, 71, said he might wait until his youngest children are older before running for public office. He doesn’t consider his age to be an obstacle.
“I’m vital and prepared to stay that way for quite a while, and yes, it’s likely I will at least throw my hat in the ring in some way,” he said.
The idea of throwing his hat in the political ring is not new to Grammar.
He talked about the possibility of a political career with Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes in 2003.
He said would consider it “later in my life”and envisioned himself as a senator.
He’s also supported President Donald Trump and has called “maybe the greatest” president.
Grammer is currently promoting his new movie “Young Washington.”
He met with Trump in the Oval Office Thursday.
The two “talked Politics and their families, along with the movie,” according to Deadline sources.
After the meeting, a reporter for Scripps asked Grammer to talk on Trump’s efforts toward “bipartisanship.”
The actor said he believes the president “celebrates … the American experiment, which is honestly a story of two sides bashing heads all the time and finally coming out with some kind of middle ground that works for everybody.”
“It was fantastic today,” Grammer on his conversation with the president. “Just effervescent. Fun. We traded some old war stories about our lives, our personal lives, our wives and our families. It was really nice to see him.”
