Former Tallahassee Mayor and Florida Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) was found in an ā€œinebriated stateā€ at the site of a possible overdose on Thursday night, according to a police report from the Miami Beach police.

According to the report, authorities arrived at a hotel room in the city to find a man being treated with ā€œa possible drug overdoseā€ and Gillum was in the room ā€œunder the influence of an unknown substance.ā€ The report also states that Gillum was ā€œinside of the bathroom vomiting.ā€

The report states that there were ā€œthree small clear plastic baggies containing suspected crystal meth on both the bed and floor of the hotel room.ā€

Gillum reportedly left and returned to his hotel room ā€œwithout incident.ā€

On Friday, Gillum issued a statement saying, ā€œI was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction.ā€

He added, ā€œI’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time.ā€

Gillum’s 2018 gubernatorial run captured the attention of the nation. He eventually lost to Governor Ron DeSantis (R). The race also caught the attention of President Donald Trump who called Gillum a ā€œthief.ā€
