President Joe Biden told a group of teachers at the White House that Children are âlike yoursâ when they are in school.
âWe always talk about âthese Children.â Theyâre not someone elseâs Children. Theyâre our Childrenâ Biden said on Wednesday at a Teachers of the Year event, per the White House transcript.
He continued, âAnd they are the kite strings that literally lift our national ambitions aloft in a literal sense. Think about it.â
He went on:
âIf you got to do one thing to make sure the nation succeeded in the next two generations, what would you do? Youâd want â I would say, literally, have the best-educated public in the world. Have our students gain confidence enough to know what they can do, to reach in.â
After saying that educators have an âobligation to help them teach and reach their potential,â Biden reiterated, âYou have heard me say it many times about our Children, but it is true, theyâre all our Children. â
âAnd the reason you are the teachers of the year is because you recognize that. Theyâre not somebody elseâs Children. Theyâre like yours when theyâre in the classroom,â he added.

Bidenâs comments did not go over well with American Principles, an organization that is focused on the upholding the vision of the âAmerican Family,â tweeted, âNo, Joe, they are not âsomebody elseâs Children.'â
âThey are OUR Children,â it added.
The president also claimed that teachers have become a âtargetâ of the culture war.
âTeaching is one of the hardest jobs in this country to be able to do it well, and one of the most important,â Biden said.
He continued, âToday, there are too many politicians trying to score political points, trying to ban books â even math books. I mean, did you ever think â even you younger teachers â did you ever think, when youâd be teaching, that youâd be worried about book burnings and banning books, all because it doesnât fit somebodyâs political agenda?â
Biden added, âAmerican teachers have dedicated their lives to teaching our Children and lifting them up. We got to stop making them the target of the culture wars. Thatâs where this is going.â
