Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is passing on a run for Senate.

Cheney, the House Republican Conference Chairwoman, announced herself via Twitter on Thursday that she hopes to stay in her position in the House. Her statement followed after sources reported her decision.

After first blasting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Democratic colleagues for “threatening our freedom and our Wyoming values every day,” Cheney declared, “They must be stopped.”

“Our nation is facing grave security challenges overseas and the House Democrats are working to weaken our president and embolden our enemies. Socialists in Congress and among the presidential candidates are threatening our liberty and freedom.”

The Wyoming Republican then added that she feels she could better serve her state in the House.

“I believe I can have the biggest impact for the people of Wyoming by remaining in leadership in the House of Representatives working to take our GOP majority back,” she wrote.

Cheney then noted that she “will not be running for the Senate in 2020,” but, instead, she plans to seek re-election in the House. She won her House seat in the 2016 election.

“Good day for House Republicans,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) wrote in response to Cheney’s announcement, adding, “Bad day for House Democrats.”

Her announcement puts to rest the speculation of a possible Senate race. Currently, there are two Democrats and four Republicans vying for the Wyoming Senate seat in the 2020 election.

In a previous poll by Montana State University Billings, published in October of 2019, Cheney received 37% of support if she were to run against four others in the Wyoming Republican primary for Senate.
