According to the New York Post, a caller contacted emergency services at 1:51 p.m. Sunday from an apartment in Greenville, reporting an "unresponsive female" who was in "cardiac arrest." Panettiere was 36.

Paramedics began advanced cardiac life support measures in an effort to revive the actress. The emergency response can include CPR, defibrillation, breathing support and medications.

Minutes later, another emergency medical responder described the incident as a possible "overdose," according to the dispatch audio. The responder also reported that "CPR is in progress."

It was not immediately clear who made the initial 911 call. Police said Panettiere was discovered by an "acquaintance," but authorities did not identify that person.

Reports said Panettiere had traveled from Los Angeles to South Carolina with her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, on Saturday.

Police said there were no "signs of foul play." An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Monday as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding her Death.

Panettiere's Death came only months after the release of her memoir, 'This Is Me: A Reckoning.'

In the book, the former child actress discussed her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction, postpartum depression, domestic abuse and the pressures she faced while growing up in Hollywood.

Panettiere began working in entertainment as an infant, appearing in commercials at 11 months old. She later landed roles on the soap operas "One Life to Live" and "Guiding Light."

She became widely known for playing Claire Bennet on 'Heroes,' which premiered in 2006. Her film credits also included 'Remember the Titans,' 'Ice Princess,' 'Racing Stripes' and 'Bring It On: All or Nothing.'

Panettiere had previously spoken openly about addiction. In 2022, she recalled being offered "happy pills" at age 15 before appearing on the red carpet.

"They were to make me peppy during interviews," she told People. "I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction."

She entered rehab in 2020 and spent eight months receiving treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. In her memoir, she recalled doctors warning that continued drinking could put her life at serious risk.
