Vice President Kamala Harris quoted the Declaration of Independence during a speech, but left out a significant detail.
While delivering remarks on Abortion access in Tallahassee, Florida, over the weekend, Harris said, âWe collectively believe and know, America is a promise ⌠It is a promise of freedom and liberty.â
She added, âNot just some, but for all. A promise we made in the Declaration of Independence, that we are each endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Be clear, these rights were not bestowed upon us, they belong to us as Americans.â

Harris quickly received criticism from users on Twitter for leaving out the right to life included in the document.
One tweet suggested, âThis point is obvious but when the âright to lifeâ blows up your message so bad you have to pretend it doesnât exist then maybe your message isnât very good.â
Another user tweeted, âWow. Youâd think sheâd stay away from quoting it all rather than highlighting the omission. Silly me â look who we are talking about.â

Over the weekend, President Joe Biden issued a statement of his own commemorating the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
âSince the Supreme Courtâs decision, Americans, time and time again, have made their voices heard: women should be able to make these deeply personal decisions free from political interference,â Biden said.
The statement continues, âYet, Republicans in Congress and across the country continue to push for a national Abortion ban, to criminalize doctors and nurses, and to make contraception harder to access. Itâs dangerous, extreme, and out of touch.â
Concluding the statement, Biden vowed to âfight to protect a womanâs right to choose. Congress must restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law â itâs the only way we can fully secure a womanâs right to choose in every state.â
