Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles took to the internet like she just personally chased off a thousand troops with nothing but a strongly worded tweet and a recycled protest sign. Her celebratory victory lap over the departure of 1,350 American service membersâoriginally sent in to clean up the dumpster fire she let burnâis the kind of delusional chest-thumping weâve come to expect from big-city Democrats who confuse chaos with courage.
Bass triumphantly declared this âanother win for Los Angeles,â as if troops pulling out of her city had anything to do with her leadership. Spoiler alert: it didnât. The troops werenât âretreatingâ under pressure from progressive politicians. They were redeployingâbecause the streets were finally stable enough to allow it, despite her.
Enter Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth with the kind of calm, blunt precision Bass sorely lacks. He didnât mince words, either: âYouâre welcome, Mayor.â Thatâs it. Thatâs the line. If we handed out medals for political smackdowns, that one deserves a ribbon and a standing ovation.
But letâs pause and appreciate the irony. Bass claims victory over a situation she had nothing to do with solving. She was, in fact, actively opposed to the solution. Remember, these troops werenât rolling in to hand out water bottles and free hugs. They were sent to stop the violent mobs threatening ICE officers, burning property, and turning parts of L.A. into a real-life warzone. While Bass was busy appeasing activists and brushing off the fires with vague statements about âcommunity healing,â someone had to clean up the mess. And it sure wasnât the city council.
Dean Cainâyes, Superman himselfâjumped into the fray, calling her out as the âactual idiotâ in this equation. And while it might seem harsh, the frustration bubbling over isnât misplaced. Watching her spin this as some kind of progressive victory is like watching someone stumble into a party they werenât invited to, then try to take credit for the cake.
Even random Twitter users had sharper insights than the mayor. One likened her to a spectator watching a team win, then screaming, âI DID IT!!â Itâs laughable. Almost tragic. But mostly laughable.
Letâs be real here: Bass didnât drive the troops out. Theyâre leaving because they did what she couldnâtârestore order. And just to really ice that cake she tried to claim, about 250 troops are still in L.A., keeping an eye on things. You know, just in case the chaos decides to make a comeback. Which, if recent history is any indicator, is more than likely.
But Bass isnât interested in that reality. Sheâs selling a narrative. One where optics matter more than outcomes, where retweets count as results, and where âwinsâ are declared based on political theater, not public safety.
And this is the part where the rest of us shake our heads, because weâve seen this playbook before. Democrats let the fire rage, then complain about the hose pressure. They tie the hands of law enforcement, then scoff when someone else steps in to do the hard work. And when the adults finally mop up the mess, the mayor swoops in for a photo op.
If this is what qualifies as a âwinâ in Karen Bassâs Los Angeles, youâve got to wonder what her definition of a loss looks like. Because from the outside, this doesnât look like a city winning.
