Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said she believes former President Donald Trump is âfitâ to be president, but shouldnât be in office again.
In an interview with ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis on Monday, Haley, 51, responded to Davisâ question about whether Trump would be âfitâ to be president for a second term.
âItâs not about fitness. I think heâs fit to be president. Itâs âshould he be president?'â Haley said.
Continuing, the former U.N ambassador said she doesnât âthink he should be president.â
âI thought he was the right president at the right time,â she added.
Furthermore, Haley admitted she âagreed with a lot of his policiesâ when he was in office from 2017 to 2020. However, with all the disorder within the United States and throughout the world, she said, âYou canât defeat Democrat chaos with Republican chaos and Donald Trump brings us chaos.â
Additionally, Haley declared it was time for a ânew generational leader.â
âWeâve got to look at the issues that weâre dealing with, coming forward with new solutions, not focusing on negativity and baggage of the past. So itâs not about being fit. Itâs just I donât think heâs the right person to be president,â she added.
Haley also addressed the accusation she is inconsistent in her support of Trump.
âYou know, anti-Trumpers donât think I hate him enough and pro-Trumpers donât think I love him enough. I call it like I see it,â she shared.
This came after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) responded to a question given to all three candidates during the fourth GOP debate Wednesday on whether Trump was âfitâ to be president. While the other candidates were less clear in their answers, Christie, who has criticized Trump in the past, said he was not.
