Friends and admirers of actor Paul Reubens are taking to Twitter to remember him and his legacy.
Reubens passed away at the age of 70 Monday, as IJR reported. Best known for his comedic role as Pee-wee Herman, he is being remembered fondly for his “iconic” personality.
The official Muppets Twitter page posted a tribute to Reubens which stated, “We absolutely loved Paul Reubens!”
“Whether he was delighting audiences as the iconic Pee-wee Herman or being given the ‘Honorary Muppet Award’ in Muppet Magazine in 1987, he brought a burst of joy, creativity, and laughter everywhere he went,” it went on.
Actress and former talk show host Ricki Lake wrote, “Paul Reubens was my friend for almost 3 decades.”
She added, “Beyond grateful for all the memories and the countless laughs.”
Actor Corey Feldman noted he recently exchanged birthday texts from Reubens and remembered him as, “A GENIUS, GROUNDBREAKING COMEDIAN.”
TV host and comedian Conan O’Brien said, “No tweet can capture the magic, generosity, artistry, and devout silliness of Paul Reubens.”
“Everyone I know received countless nonsensical memes from Paul on their birthday, and I mean EVERYONE,” he added, noting Reubens’ kindness.
Actress Kristy Swanson, who starred with Reubens in the original “Buffy the Vampire” movie said, “I love you so much my dear friend of a lifetime Paul Reubens.”
Actor Carey Elwes looked back on Reubens’ attributes and said, “I will cherish our friendship forever.”
Comedic legend Steve Martin noted, “Pee Wee got his wish to fly.”
Ana Martinez, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce VP of Media Relations, also posted a picture of a memorial on Paul Reubens’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
She pointed out, “Note the bow tie on the wreath.”
