A significant portion of President Joe Bidenâs effort to limit greenhouse gas emissions is focused on encouraging Americans to switch to electric vehicles.
But, Fox Newsâ Peter Doocy is asking if President Joe Biden is setting an example by owning an electric vehicle himself.
During a press conference on Thursday, Fox Newsâ Peter Doocy noted, âYou guys are pushing electric vehicles today. This is a president who always talks about the power of our example.â
He asked, âDoes own an electric vehicle?â
âPresidents of the United States donât do a lot of driving,â Psaki responded.
However, Doocy said, âHeâs posted videos where heâs revving the engine of his Corvette in Wilmington. He owns cars.â
âAnd he also has driven electric vehicles as president to give a model to the rest of the country,â the press secretary said.
Still, Doocy pressed, âDoes he own one?â
âI think the presidentâs record on this is clear, Peter. Presidents of the United States current and when they are no longer typically are not doing a lot of driving,â Psaki said.

Biden has placed a focus on electric vehicles in his effort to limit greenhouse emissions.
In August, President Joe Bidensigned an executive order that set a goal of having electric vehicles make up half of U.S. car and truck sales by 2030. His bipartisan infrastructure law also includes $7.5 billion to help deploy electric vehicle chargers. The law also allocates up to $174 billion aimed at encouraging Americans to purchase electric vehicles.
In May, Biden traveled to Fordâs electric vehicle plant to test-drive its F-150 Lightning pick-up truck.
âThis suckerâs quick,â Biden told reporters, adding, âI think that weâre going 0 to 60 in about 4.3, 4.4.â
On top of the environmental benefits, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said earlier this week, âClean transportation can bring significant cost savings for the American people, as well.â
âLast month, we announced a $5 billion investment to build out a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, so that people from rural to suburban to urban communities can all benefit from the gas savings of driving an EV,â he added.
CNBC noted in Dec. 2021, âThe average transaction price for an electric vehicle (EV) is $56,437, according to Kelley Blue Book â roughly $10,000 higher than the overall industry average of $46,329 that includes gas and EVs. In terms of pricing, an EV is equivalent to an entry-level luxury car.â
