ā€œSound of freedomā€ Director Alejandro Monteverde discussed plans for a sequel set in Haiti.

During an interview withĀ VarietyĀ executive editor of film and media, Tatiana Siegel, he said, ā€œThere’s definitely a lot of interest to exploring a little deeper, because this is just the tip of the iceberg.ā€Ā

ā€œThere’s a lot of interest to kind of explore Haiti, what’s happening in Haiti. There’s talks focusing on Haiti,ā€ he added.

He mentioned how that location was a specific point of interest for the film’s main character, Former CIA and DHS agent Tim Ballard. He said, ā€œHaiti was a big part of Tim’s work.ā€

Monteverde noted, ā€œI was very tempted to do Haiti on this film. But I wanted to do an origin story, and it was too much material. I needed to end where I ended.ā€

ā€œSound of freedom,ā€ a film about child trafficking, is the highest-grossing independent movie in recent years. It has made $173 million so far and had a longer journey from film to screen than usual.

Monteverde also spoke out about negative media attention for the film stating, ā€œI was like really sick. I was like, ā€˜This is all wrong. That’s not true.ā€™ā€

He called it ā€œheartbreakingā€ and said, ā€œMy instinct was to run. I want to hide. I don’t want to give any more interviews.ā€

Despite this, he did give a few interviews before the release. He said he had no wish to think of regrets and that lead actor Jim Caviezel was ā€œso committed and so professional on set.ā€

He also detailed how Caviezel worked through being sick. Monteverde said, ā€œI respect that as a director to have an actor that is just gonna die for the part.ā€

While the sequel is still just being discussed, Monteverde was also asked about running an awards-season campaign and he said, ā€œI would love that.ā€

He added, ā€œFor me, it would be incredible even just to go and sit down in one of those chairs.ā€
