Former President Trump dropped some names Sunday after being asked about whom he would pick as his running mate, but said no decision has been made.
Trump told âSunday Morning Futuresâ host Maria Bartiromo that he would not make an announcement any time soon, according to Fox News.
âWe have so many great people in the Republican Party,â he said, Â adding that he will not name his choice âfor a little while.â
âWhat criteria are you using to identify who your running mate is?â Bartiromo asked.
âAlways, itâs gotta be one thing. Itâs gotta be who would be a good president. I mean, you always have to think that, because in case of emergency. Things happen, right? No matter who you are, things happen. Thatâs gotta be number one,â Trump said.

Trump parried as Bartiromo asked for a name.
âWell, I have a lot of good people,â he said. âI have a lot of good ideas.â
When asked if he had told his potential running mate anything, Trump replied, âI talk to everybody.â
âYou know, I called Tim Scott and a lot of people like Tim Scott, and I said youâre a much better candidate for me than you are for yourself,â Trump said, referring to Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina. âWhen I watched him, he was fine. He was good, he was fine, but he was very low key.
âI watched him in the last week, defending me and sticking up for me and fighting for me â I said, âMan, youâre a much better person for me than you are for yourself.ââ
He said Scott had been a âtigerâ on his behalf.
When Bartitomo pressed, Trump said it âcould beâ Scott but it also âcould be a lot of people.â
Trump also gave a shout-out to Republican Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota.
âKristi Noem has been incredible fighting for me. She said, âIâd never run against him because I canât beat him.â That was a very nice thing to say,â Trump said.
Bartiromo asked about rumors that Trumpâs campaign reached out to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to explore having RFK Jr. run as Trumpâs vice president.
Trumpâs response was curt.
âIt never happened,â he said.
Noem appeared during a separate segment of Sundayâs edition of âSunday Morning Futures,â according to Newsweek.
âHas he contacted you about potentially being his running mate?â Bartiromo asked.
âNo. We talk all the time, but weâve never had that conversation,â Noem said, according to Newsweek.
