O’Rourke Claims There Is ‘Absolutely’ Sexism in Dem Primary, Says Women Candidates Face ‘Disparate Treatment’

2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate and former Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (D-Texas) said that he believed there was “absolutely” sexism towards his female competitors in the race for the Democratic nomination.

While speaking at the MoveOn Big Ideas Forum in San Fransisco on Saturday, O’Rourke was asked if he “agreed” that the women candidates vying for the Democratic presidential nomination were facing “sexism” in the race.

O’Rourke responded that he “absolutely” did believe that the women running for the nation’s highest office were facing “disparate treatment” based on their sex and that, as a “white man,” he had “advantages” in the race that he “did not earn.”

“Yes, absolutely, there is disparate treatment of these candidates. There are advantages that I have, that I brought into this race that I did not earn, that were a function of circumstance and fortune and fate being born a white man in this country.”

“Recognizing that,” continued the former Texas congressman. “Listening to those who have not had the same life experiences as I have, the same advantages that I have enjoyed, is fundamental to my ability to reflect this country both in our campaign and in any administration that I would lead.”

O’Rourke’s claim that his female opponents are facing “disparate treatment” comes as he falls behind opponents Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in the polls.

Harris and Warren both beat out O’Rourke — who failed to unseat Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after raising nearly $80 million — by at least six percent in a recent Quinnipiac poll, at least three percent in a Morning Consult poll published last week, and double-digits in a Monmouth poll from last month.

O’Rourke is making immigration one of the central pillars of his campaign.

As IJR News previously reported, O’Rourke revealed his new immigration proposal that would allow communities to sponsor immigrants to become citizens through a “community-based visa” program.

The plan would also allow for the detainment of only “those with criminal backgrounds representing a danger to our communities” who are caught crossing the border illegally.

Maybe O’Dork should get a sex-change operation and start calling himself Roberta so he’d have an issue.

At least O’Rourke has some positive ideas on the problem.
