More voters are expressing their disapproval with the way President Joe Biden is handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy, a poll shows.
According to a CNBC-Change Research poll, Biden’s disapproval rating reached a record high as 56% of voters disapprove of Biden’s overall job performance. Only 44% of voters approve.
The disapproval rating is the worst of his presidency.
The poll found 60% of voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy while 55% disapprove of his response to the pandemic.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents are disappointed with how the president handles jobs, and 66% do not agree with Biden’s approach to helping them with their wallets.
An overwhelming 72% of voters say they disapprove of how Biden has addressed the price of everyday goods.
The poll was conducted from December 17 to 20 and surveyed 1,895 voters.
In December, the labor department revealed, since 1982, prices increased at their fastest annual rate.
“I think it’s the peak of the crisis,” Biden said. “And I think you’ll see a change sooner and quicker and more rapidly than it will take than most people think. Every other aspect of the economy is racing ahead. It’s doing incredibly well. We’ve never had this kind of growth in 60 years but inflation is affecting people’s lives.”
He claimed “economic growth is stronger here than virtually any other nation,” adding, “Americans have more money in their pockets than this time last year — $100 more each month than last year — even after accounting for price increases. But we have to get prices and costs down before consumers will feel confident in that recovery. That is a top goal of my administration.”
On Tuesday, Biden will deliver remarks on the administration’s response to the rise in Covid cases.
“In brief remarks, the President will address the American people on these updates, as well as the importance of continuing to use the tools we know protect the American people — vaccines, boosters and masking,” a White House official said.
