Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has blamed her defeat to then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016 on myriad factors. Now, former President Bill Clinton is getting in on the action.
Bill Clinton, according to a new book from New York Times writer Amy Chozick, is going down a uniquely conspiratorial route, The Daily Beast reported Friday.
In the book, “Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling,” Chozick, who traveled with the Democratic nominee throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, recalled Bill Clinton claiming the Times was, in some way, in the bag for Trump because of the readership he brought to the legendary newspaper.

“After the election,” Chozick wrote, “Bill would spread a more absurd Times conspiracy: The publisher had struck a deal with Trump that we’d destroy Hillary on her emails to help him get elected, if he kept driving traffic and boosting the company’s stock price.”
Chozick’s writing also shed light on Hillary Clinton’s own reflections. After calling a large swath of Trump’s supporters “deplorables,” the Times writer said the former secretary of state admitted she “really messed up” and shouldn’t have made such a sweeping generalization.
And in the moments after she lost the presidency to Trump, Clinton reportedly said: “I knew it. I knew this would happen to me. They were never going to let me be president.”
