HBO host Bill Maher went off on “liberal” parents who were part of the college admissions scandal, suggesting that this was why people did not want to support the Democratic Party.
During his show on Friday, Maher pointed out that while there may have been people from both sides involved, he wanted to focus on the left-leaning side of the scandal, saying this was the reason people voted for President Donald Trump.
“There’s a real liberal face on this scandal,” Maher said. “We don’t know all the people involved, and I’m sure there were some conservatives. But it looks like coastal elites. If you ever wonder why so many people — how could you vote for Trump? Or why do they hate Democrats so much? This is exactly why.”
The comedian also questioned parenting, saying he was worried about the future because of how children are being raised.
“I have issues about parenting in this country,” Maher said. “[…] You’re raising kids that become the society that I live in. You’re raising the future leaders of this country, and when I see these vapid, spoiled brats, yes, I think it does affect me.”

He called the style of parenting seen in the scandal “bulldozer parenting,” which he claimed was worse than “helicopter” parenting.
“Bulldozing is when you just move out of the way all the obstacles. I think that describes this much better,” Maher said.
The host noted that many young people on social media want to become famous instead of choosing a career to help positively impact society, something that Maher said was the new goal.
“It’s sad also for society because these kids — the kid was an influencer,” he said. “That’s what they all want to be, they all want to be Kardashians. That’s the goal.”
The nationwide scandal has sparked multiple lawsuits and is the largest known college bribery scandal in U.S. history. Many have spoken out against those involved and have said that well-deserving students’ rights were taken away.
