Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston were once one of the most talked about couples in America. But beneath the glitz and glamour, Bobby, the bad boy of R&B, and Whitney, the darling pop goddess, had a dark side.

While physical abuse in their marriage was often rumored, in 2003, Brown was reportedly charged with misdemeanor battery related to Houston.
In 2009, Houston told Oprah Winfrey that Brown “slapped me once and he got hit over the head,” but she stood by him in court anyway.

Brown admitted in his upcoming autobiography, Every Little Step, that he did strike Houston at least once during their relationship.
The physical violence came during a time where he was “trying to maintain sobriety” while Houston was still very much involved in the drugs and alcohol that would eventually kill her.
But he maintains that besides that instance, he has “never been a violent man toward a woman ever.”
Brown also claims that the reputation he earned as a “woman beater” is unfounded.
Despite the constant drug use in the house, Bobby swore that he never did them in front of his daughter Bobbi Kristina:
“I always made it a point to not let her see me or my wife in that type of situation. It’s hard when you’re doing it everyday, it’s really hard.”
Whitney and Bobby would lock themselves in a separate wing of the house to do drugs while nannies took care of their young daughter.
The 47-year-old is now drug-free and married to Alicia Etheredge and they have two kids, with a third on the way.
Still, it’s hard to watch him relive his troubled past:
