‘This Is a Real Crisis at Our Border’: VP Pence Backs Trump’s Push and Reiterates ‘No Wall, No Deal’

The partial government shutdown continues into its fourteenth day as Democrats continue to battle against President Donald Trump’s demand for $5.6 billion in border wall funding, instead of coming up with an alternative solution. However, Vice President Mike Pence is backing the president as he said, “No wall, no deal.”

During an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Pence reiterated that the Trump administration’s focus is on border security, calling for the need for the border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The vice president explained that the president has made it clear “we’re here to make a deal” when meeting with top Democrats and Republicans on listening and negotiating funds.

“You have no border security without a wall,” Pence said. “We will have no deal without a wall.”

Pence went on to say there has been no negotiation — adding that they are prepared to listen and negotiate — on the border wall, claiming that even the American people know that “walls work.”

“The president has made it very clear,” Pence said, reiterating that the president is holding firm on his stance for the border wall and border security: “No wall, no deal.”

“I want the American people to know that this is a real crisis at our border. We made progress last year and it probably was a result of the fact that the American people elected a new president who delivered a very strong message about confronting illegal immigration … in the last 12 months, we’ve literally seen a dramatic increase in the number of people — 2,000 people a day apprehended at our border — … We can agree on those facts, come together around solutions but part of that solution means a wall.”

Additionally, Pence said in addition to the wall along the southern border, other tools, such as technology and drones, would assist border patrol agents further but “bottom line: there’s no wall, there’s no deal.”

The vice president tweeted that he’s “looking forward to meeting tomorrow with Republican and Democrat leadership to continue our discussions on border security,” adding in another tweet that there is a crisis at the southern border and the Trump administration is “absolutely committed” to secure the border.

“The American people deserve nothing less,” Pence wrote.

Top Democrats and Republicans met with President Trump in the situation room on Wednesday for a meeting on the government shutdown and border wall funding, which resulted in Department of Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen blasting Democrats for not listening to her talk “about criminal aliens, drug smugglers, smuggled & abused children or violent caravans trying to breach the border wall,” as IJR Red reported.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also claimed after the meeting that “once the Secretary started, Senator Schumer interrupted her and they really didn’t want to hear it and they challenged some of the points the Secretary made.”

The president and congressional leaders are expected to meet on Friday to discuss the border wall funding and the partial government shutdown.

We know for certain that McCarthy knows the WH talking points as he has repeated them on FOX interviews. WHO in the Situation Room does McCarthy believe had not heard them? If Schumer, Pelosi, Durbin and Hoyer were not swayed the first 100 times they heard them, what is the logic that 101 would be different?
