Police are investigating reports of an “active attacker with a gun” near Shannon Library on the University of Virginia campus Monday afternoon, prompting an immediate campus lockdown.
According to News WTKR 3, the university issued an emergency alert on X (formerly Twitter) just after 3 p.m., warning students and staff to “RUN HIDE FIGHT.”
By 3:14 p.m., officials confirmed that police were on the scene investigating the situation at the library. Minutes later, the university announced that all academic buildings on Grounds were shifting to access control only, restricting entry as a safety precaution.
Authorities have not yet provided additional details about any potential suspect or injuries.
