A Virginia man has been arrested for allegedly planting pipe bombs not far from the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 5, 2021.

The arrest came after a nearly five-year investigation, Fox News reported.

The bombs were placed outside the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic National Committees.

The FBI arrested the suspect early Thursday morning, the sources said.

Authorities discovered the pipe bombs about the same time thousands of protesters began to descend on the Capitol over the 2020 election results.

Video footage showed an unidentified person placing the pipe bombs more than 16 hours before law enforcement found them.
