Buttigieg Claims Those Who Vote for Trump Ignore Racism ‘at Best’ When Asked If Trump Voters Are Racist

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-Ind.) claimed that those who vote for President Donald Trump are “at best” ignoring racism, if not outright supporting it.

Buttigieg is one of the 23 Democrats in the presidential primary hoping to get his shot to take on President Trump in the general.

The mayor has been outspoken that he believes the president is racist. Following the El Paso shooting, where a white supremacist opened fire in a Walmart, Buttigieg claimed that Trump is a “white nationalist,” and inspired the gunman.

During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” host Jake Tapper asked Buttigieg if it was a “racist act” to cast a vote for President Trump in 2020. The mayor told Tapper a Trump supporter is “at best” ignoring racism.

Watch Buttigieg’s comments:

“Well, at best, it means looking the other way on racism. But I think a lot of people are wondering what kind of deal even that is supposed to be. You know, you look at what he said in that rally. You have no choice but to vote for me. And if you look at the numbers, basically what he’s saying is: ‘All right, I want you to look the other way on the racism, tolerate the negativity, accept the instability of my administration because I’m going to deliver for you job growth almost as good as the Obama years.’ That’s what his argument amounts to now. It’s part of the reason why he’s unpopular.”

Although Buttigieg claimed that Trump’s economy was “almost as good as the Obama years,” economic growth under Trump has been better by many metrics, as IJR previously reported.

Buttigieg’s claim that Trump supporters ignore racism is similar to a statement made by his fellow 2020 Democrat Beto O’Rourke. When asked the same question by Tapper last week, O’Rourke refused to say whether he thought all Trump supporters were racist, instead, he claimed that voting for the president was “dangerous.”

For those who do not believe Trump is a racist, what definition of racist are you working off of?

this is his version of “basket of deplorables” Wonder why he doesn’t mention the shooter in Ohio….oh that’s right, he was an Elizabeth Warren supporter. Go back to South Bend and try to be a mayor because you continue to show you are unable to be president.

All we hear from the democrat party is everyone that disagrees with them are racists. It would appear that they don’t even know the meaning of the term racist. we need to send them dictionaries with the term and its meaning color coded. Buttigieg appears to be the bigot.
